Tunable White LED Light Sheet

Quick Answer:

LightWave® tunable-white LED sheets adjust from 2700K to 6500K from a single sheet, letting one installation shift from warm architectural light to cooler working or display light. This is useful when the same space needs different lighting scenes throughout the day. The sheet remains an even area source while the controller changes the color temperature, so there is no need to replace the backlighting system.

Tunable White LED light sheets shift color temperature on demand — from warm 2700K amber through daylight 6500K crisp white — through a compatible driver or controller. Unlike single-CCT sheets, one installation adapts to the time of day, the merchandise on display, or the mood of the space without swapping fixtures.

LightWave® Tunable White mixes two banks of LEDs — a warm-white bank and a cool-white bank — inside a single sheet, then blends them via driver signal. The result is continuous CCT control across the full 2700K–6500K range, not stepped presets. The sheet stays under 7mm thick, cuttable, bendable and adhesive-backed — the same install workflow as every other flexible LED light sheet in the LightWave® line.

What Is a Tunable White LED Light Sheet?

A Tunable White LED light sheet is a thin, flexible panel of two interleaved LED banks — one warm, one cool — controlled together to produce any color temperature between the two extremes. In LightWave®, that range spans 2700K to 6500K. A compatible dual-channel driver balances the two banks to deliver the specified Kelvin value.

Because the color shift is optical (blending real warm and real cool LEDs), the light stays high-CRI across the entire range — rated Ra 80+ on both LightWave® Tunable White variants.

Kelvin Range & Control (2700K–6500K)

LightWave® Tunable White covers the full white spectrum most architectural, retail and hospitality projects specify:

  • 2700K — warm amber; hospitality, residential, evening retail, restaurant back-bars
  • 3500K — neutral warm; workplace and general commercial
  • 5000K — neutral daylight; task lighting and merchandising
  • 6500K — cool daylight; medical, technical, morning workplace, jewelry and cosmetics display

Adjustment is continuous, not stepped — dial to any Kelvin value in range through a compatible driver. For a deeper explanation of how to pick a Kelvin value for a given space, see our CCT defined in our glossary.

LightWave® Tunable White — Gen 1 Plus vs CH2

Two verified Tunable White variants ship in the line. Both are 12″ × 24″ (305 × 610 mm), under 7 mm thick, cuttable along marked lines, and rated CRI Ra 80+. The difference is output vs. efficiency:

Variant Power Efficiency Output @ 2700K Output @ 6500K Best for
Gen 1 Plus Tunable White 2 × 14 W 113–123 lm/W 1,580 lm 1,720 lm Efficiency-led specs; longer runs per driver
CH2 Tunable White 2 × 20 W >90 lm/W 1,800 lm 1,850 lm Brighter per sheet; deeper diffusers, larger cavities

Where Tunable White LightWave® Fits

  • Retail with day-part merchandising — cool white for morning fashion, warm for evening dining brands
  • Workplace and office — supports circadian lighting for workplaces, shifting 6500K morning to 2700K evening
  • Hospitality — bars, restaurants and lobbies that shift mood from day to evening service
  • Museums and galleries — CCT tuned to protect artifacts and match exhibit era
  • Residential and hospitality millwork — kitchen, bath, integrated ceiling coves, custom cabinetry

Compatible Controllers & Drivers

Tunable White LightWave® requires a driver or controller with dual-channel (tunable-white) output. Common compatible protocols:

  • DALI DT8 (Type 8 — colour control, Tc sub-type)
  • DMX with a tunable-white decoder
  • 0–10 V with a CCT-aware two-channel controller

Confirm the exact driver on the product spec sheet before ordering. LUXX supplies matched drivers on request as part of a project quote.

Installation Overview

Install is the same as any other LightWave® sheet — cut along marked lines to size, peel the adhesive backing, apply to a clean surface, connect to the tunable-white driver. Use the screw spacer set on shallow cavities and behind fabric or diffuser panels to control hotspots and dissipate heat.

Tunable White FAQs

What is a Tunable White LED light sheet?

A Tunable White LED light sheet is a flexible LED panel that changes color temperature on demand — typically across 2700K warm to 6500K daylight — through a compatible driver or controller. LightWave® Tunable White mixes warm and cool LED banks in one sheet for continuous, high-CRI CCT adjustment.

What Kelvin range does LightWave® Tunable White cover?

2700K amber warm through 6500K daylight cool, continuously tunable via controller — not stepped presets.

What is the difference between Tunable White and RGBW?

Tunable White adjusts color temperature but stays white. RGBW adds full-color capability — red, green, blue plus white. Choose Tunable White for adaptive white lighting; choose RGBW when the design also needs color effects.

Do I need a special controller for Tunable White?

Yes — a driver or controller with tunable-white (dual-channel) output. Common compatible protocols are DALI DT8, DMX with a tunable-white decoder, and 0–10 V with a CCT-aware two-channel controller. Check the product spec sheet for exact compatibility.

Which LightWave® variant should I choose for Tunable White?

Choose Gen 1 Plus Tunable White for the highest efficiency (113–123 lm/W) and longer runs per driver. Choose CH2 Tunable White for higher brightness per sheet (up to 1,850 lm at 6500K) when the design has deep diffusers or larger cavities to fill.
